Kate's tag

Kate loves to draw and write and try to spell words. It makes me proud! On her bag of Christmas candy, and tried to write the word "candy," and spelled it "KNTE." Not bad! However, lately she's been lying like a rug! She lies about everything! Then, she tries to blame it on her sister. Example: According to Kate, she's won some awards and medals at pre-school for winning races, but the teacher makes her keep the medals at school. That's why I can't see them. Example: Neal was supervising her in the shower a few days ago. He left for a while and told her to wash her body. When he came back, there was water all over the bathroom floor, and Kate stood there holding the shower wand. She INSISTED over and over that Sarah came in the bathroom, took the shower head from her, and squirted water all over the bathroom. Meanwhile, Sarah had been watching TV with me in the other room the whole time.

Well, the other day, I got after Sarah for drawing all over her hand and arm. The next day, while Sarah was at school, Kate runs in to me and says, "Mom! Look what Sarah did to my hand!" On her hand, written in blue ink, was Sarah's name. I said, "Why is her name in your handwriting?"

Now, as you can see in the picture, the same thing happened on the entertainment center; Sarah's name in Kate's handwriting. Neal had to interrogate her for about 30 minutes before Kate finally admitted to that one. Any ideas on how to stop the lies?

Peton Christmas 2007

We had a great Christmas yesterday. But today, the house is a freaking disaster and here I am, blogging. Yesterday was spent mostly in PJ's, although at about 1 o'clock I gave up and had to take a shower and get dressed. Neal and Sarah made it the whole way in their pj's though, a feat Sarah is very proud of.

Sarah's birthday was the 21st, and I've added a picture of that event. Neal and I got her a new bike. The one she's been riding is old, rusty, who knows how old, and weighs about 100 pounds. However, she was way more excited about her new Rascal Flatts cd from her Grandma Peton. Grandparents won for Sarah's birthday.

On Christmas, grandparents won yet again! They gave Sarah an mp3 player. She's been begging for one, so you can imagine her reaction when she opened it up. They also won with Kate's present. It was a "Barbie and the Island Princess" Barbie doll. The girls also got some killer cowboy boots from their great grandparents.

So, my most exciting gift was a new bed spread and pillows and bed skirt! So, it's not surprising that at about 1:30 in the morning, Kate came in my room and said, "Mom, I don't feel goo . . . .BARF!" Homemade pizza all over my new bed set. Nice. I bet I'm not the only one out there that's had that particular experience.

But, barf and all, we had a great Christmas.

The Hansen Clan

While in Utah for Thanksgiving, the whole family got together for a family shot. The last one had been 3 years previous, and the family has grown by a few since then. Our photo shoot was at 9 am the day after Thanksgiving in very nipply weather. I think our smiles froze in place.

Top row: little sis Laurel, husband and kid; big bro Ryan, wife and kids; myself, Neal and kidlets
2nd row from top: Little sista Lindsey and family; meine mutti und vater; big sis Angie and family (the two boys in front belong to her too)
1st row: Little sista Ginger and family; little brother Reese

Aren't they the best? I think so.

You can't do that on television

I have fond memories of a little-known Canadian show from the 80's called "You Can't do That on Television." Angie and I had a huge crush on Alastair, and we thought the girl named "The Moose" was barf-bag ugly. The other day, while I was puking, I thought, "Hey, this is like the kids that barfed whenever they ate a barth burger on that funny Canadian show."

I did learn an important sociological fact from watching that show. Canadian's say "soory" instead of "sorry." Since I was 11 years old, all I have to say to my sister Angie is "soory," and she laughs. Ahhh memories.

Also, in doing research for this blog post, I found out Alanis Morrisette was on the 1986 season of the show! That was right about the time I watched it! Who knew? Wow, famous Canadians.
